We are always on the look out for the next Lion's Roar, and sadly with the passing of Contributer, we are running out of opportunities to secure them.
This week, we secured a lovely gelding from the NZ Ready To Run sale that was bred by prolific breeders Blandford Lodge, who have bred most of the horses in the female family, and he was sold through Kelly Van Dyk's Prima Park. He ran up in 10.57 seconds for the furlong, showing us he has speed and a turn of foot.
He is a well balanced 2yo with a lovely shape to him, good colour, lovely head, deep girth, and a decent action and laconic stride on him. He looks intelligent and relaxed and will make up into a tremendous prospect as a 3yo.
This gelding is bred on an interesting cross for several reasons. Firstly, he is out of a young Pins mare, and with only 4 horses bred on this cross, it has produced a stakes winner, a stakes placegetter, and a 4 times winner! Secondly, he has the Sadler's Wells / Nureyev cross in his pedigree, which is famous for producing good horses given those 2 horses are close relations and pedigree buffs love seeing these 2 horses meet each other in a pedigree page.
He is a perfect horse for our clients. Danielle Seib at Goulburn will train him. He's already been gelded, educated, and ready to crack on with. We will get him across to Sydney asap, and then let him have a good break for 3 months before he would go into training with Danielle with the hope that he would get a run under his belt as a late 2yo, before coming back as a 3yo with the aim of pointing him towards the classics.
