Lion's Roar Vying For Big Dance Ticket In Wyong Cup
Wed, Sep 4, 2024
Lion's Roar will be out to score a golden ticket into the $3M Big Dance on Melbourne Cup day at Randwick. He was a gallant runner-up in the Little Dance last year carrying 62kg's from barrier 20 after narrowly missing out on a run the Big Dance following a 2nd placing in the Wagga Gold Cup.
He just missed gaining a spot in this year's race after finishing 3rd in the Scone Cup in May but will be out to get his ticket when he tackles the $250,000 Wyong Gold Cup which has attracted a field of 12 runners. Lion's Roar has drawn nicely in barrier 3 with regular hoop Jason Collett sticking aboard. He's coming off an excellent 2nd placing in the Listed Rowley Mile where he finished 0.6L behind Cepheus.
The Chris Waller trained Etna Rosa has opened favourite with Kerrin McEvoy aboard carrying 54kg's. The 5YO imported gelding is coming off a dominant win in Benchmark 78 grade over 1900m at Rosehill last start. He has won up to 2200m so the 2100m of the Wyong Cup won't be a worry for this son of Decorated Knight.
Also amongst the chances is the other Waller runner Medatsu who has notched up 2 wins from as many starts this preparation and looks a nice stayer on the rise.
