The Champion stable celebrated a Sunday double at Wyong and Moruya.
Kicking off the day in southern New South Wales was Amarantz on the 8 day back-up at Moruya for trainer Danielle Seib. She relished a drop back in grade after finishing 7th at provincial level the week prior, beaten only 3.6 lenghts. She was allotted 62.5kg in Sunday's race which was bought down to 59.5kg's after the 3kg claim from Olivia Dalton. Lining up in an 8 horse field, Amarantz travelled strongly at the back half of the field on the fence. She was under pressure when the pace picked up from the 600m and Olivia attempted to get her to the outside around the the home turn. When a run didn't present itself, she switched back to the inside and nosed out the second favourite Another Fortune to secure her fourth career win.
It was an excellent effort by the 6YO Animal Kingdom mare, whom we purchased for $27,500 as a weanling. She has now earned connections over $230,000 from 32 career starts, including a memorable Randwick Highway win in February last year. Congratulations to her owners Red Eye No 2 syndicate, Mr W S Simpson, Mrs M M Bailey, Ms V L Sheils, Mr A White, Mr P G Zaninovich, B & Me syndicate, Mrs K R Baker, Mr P Baker, Lotave syndicate, Thug Thoroughbreds, Mr M E J Mcintyre, Mr N R Blizard, Mr S J Brown, Mr G F Furner, Mrs S Seymour, Mrs S Harris.
Rounding out an excellent day was promising 3YO filly Lilac who was first-up at Wyong in a Maiden Plate over 1200m. She was up against short-priced favourite and multiple stakes placed Embassy who had the favours from barrier 1. James McDonald. fresh off 5 winners from the day prior made the trip to Wyong just to pilot Lilac which was a positive sign for connections. The daughter of Justify flew from barrier 7 and took her time coming across from the wide draw to sit along side the favourite in the lead. The pair matched motors coming around the home turn, leaving their rivals behind for a head to head battle down the straight. Lilac gave a good kick when balanced up to pull away from Embassy, defeating him by 0.75L. Lilac is the second winner from Group II placed Fastnet Rock mare Paulownia, a full sister to Group I winning sire Foxwedge and stakes-winner She’s a Fox with the family also producing Group II winner Bank Maur and stakes-winners Namesake and Untamed.
With plenty of nice 3YO fillies races coming up over the spring, hopefully Lilac can continue to progress and feature at some stage over the carnival, a thought which is resounded by her trainers Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald.
Lilac was purchased from the 2023 Karaka Yearling sale for $300,000 in partnership trainer Annabel and Rob.
