Kenichi Repays Owners Patience With Maiden Win
Fri, Jun 16, 2023
3YO Maurice gelding Kenichi has been a work in progress for his trainer Danielle Seib and her efforts were rewarded with a easy maiden win at Goulburn on Friday. The lightly raced staying conveyance started his career with John O'Shea and after a failed run at Randwick on Boxing Day last year, the decision was made to give him a decent break and a preparation in Goulburn with Seib.
"He's such a big, raw horse who just needed time. He has improved significantly each and every run and it was very rewarding to see him break through at his third start for our stable". Seib noted after the win.
Jumping from barrier 7 and with the addition of the winkers for the first time, Kenichi jumped well out of the gates and settled in a beautiful rhythm mid-field. Jockey Jean Van Overmeire let him slide three wide around the home turn and was too strong to the line, defeating his rivals by 1.3 lengths.
Kenichi is out of classy staying mare Aliyana Tilde who won the Group 2 Epona Stakes and was placed in an Oaks and Sydney Cup. Given the strong staying bloodlines, and Kenichi's physicality, he will be tested over a staying distance at his next start where connections believe his future lies.
A special mention must also go to his strapper Gabby, who rides him every morning at track work and has a real affinity with Kenichi.
Kenichi was a $60,000 purchase from the Kulani Park draft at the 2021 Inglis Premier sale.
