Very Choosy

On the racetrack, Choisir, was one of the most brilliant sprinters ever to stem from the Danehill line. A Champion at two and at three in Australia, he also made history when taking two of England’s premier sprinting events, the King’s Stand Stakes (gr. II) and Golden Jubilee Stakes (gr. I), both at Royal Ascot, and within five days of each other.

At stud, Choisir has been no less impressive, siring group one winners in Australia, North America and Europe, his stars including international Champion Starspangledbanner; Olympic Glory, officially corated the world’s leading three-year-old in 2013; and other group one winners Sacred Choice, Choice Bro, Historian and Obviously.

Champion Victoria's Choisir filly is very closely related to Choisir’s extremely smart son, Battlefield – a winner of five of seven starts, four consecutively, including the Ramornie Handicap and Ascot Handicap, both black-type events – as her dam, Pedantic, is a half-sister to Battlefield. By European Champion, Peintre Celebre, Pedantic is out of Charming Charge, a daughter of renowned speed influence, Rory’s Jester.

Charming Charge is herself a half-sister to the AJC Surround Stakes (gr. II) heroine, Khaptivaan, in turn dam of the VATC Oakleigh Plate (gr. I) victor Khaptingly, and of stakes winner Khaptrist, and granddam of stakes winner Sain Khapital. In addition, Charming Charge, is half-sister to stakes winner Stimulus, and to the dam of Spitz – a son of Choisir’s grandsire, Danehill – winner of the VATC Veuve Clicquot Stakes.

We note that this filly’s dam is by a Northern Dancer grandson, and the cross of Choisir with Northern Dancer line mares has produced no less than 22 stakes winners, ten of them group or grade one, including Olympic Glory, Obviously and Choice Bro.
