Champion Thoroughbreds’ first acquisition of 2017 is this sharp-looking filly from the first crop of sprint star, Shamexpress. The fastest son of Champion Sire O’Reilly, Shamexpress captured the Newmarket Handicap (gr. I) as a three-year-old against older horses, covering the 1200m in a blistering 1:08.1.

The dam, New Age Rocka, is a multiple winning three-quarters sister to the brilliant Danglissa, heroine of the AJC Flight Stakes (gr. I), STC Tea Rose Stakes (gr. II), Queen of the Turf Stakes (Gr. I), NSW Tatt’s RC Furious Stakes (gr. III), and runner-up in the VATC 1,000 Guineas (gr. I). Danglissa is also granddam of the recent ATC Festival Stakes (gr. III) victress Sweet Redemption, and of stakes winner Euryale.

The granddam, Vreeland, is a half-sister to black-type performers Lord Sheraton and Smooth; to Polishing, the dam of the Newcastle JC Newmarket Handicap (gr. III) scorer, Danzippo; and to Shiny, the dam of stakes winning graded stakes placed Marveen, and graddam of the ATC Shorts Handicap (gr. III) winner Pampelonne, and of Rockshaft, successful in the SAJC Breeders’s Stakes (gr. III).
The family goes back to the famed foundation mare, Dark Jewel, dam of Baguette, a Champion Two-Year-Old who captured the Golden Slipper, AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Champagne Stakes, and VRC Newmarket Handicap, before going on to a career as a successful sire, of AJC Epsom Handicap and QTC Stradbroke Handicap captor Cabochon, and of Heirloom, who took the VATC 1,000 Guineas. Dark Jewel also ancestress of such as grade one winners The Quarterback, Spinning Hill and Cinder Bella.

This filly is a product of the O’Reilly/Danehill cross that has already produced six stakes winners, including Sacred Falls, whose triumphs include the George Main Stakes (gr. I) and back-to-back renewals of the ATC Doncaster Handicap (gr. I), and the VRC Oaks (gr. I) captress Kirramosa.
