Midnight Reigns

"By Danehill's Best Son. A Lovely Well Related Filly with Athleticism"
Midnight Reigns had to do it the hard way in her first racing preparation. She faced the starter 3 times and each time had to contend with the heavy and slow tracks that mother nature had thrown her way throughout winter, so we can't be too critical.

She did acquit herself well though and after initially failing at Randwick on the Heavy track, we knew immediately that wet tracks were not her go. Next start we went to Cessnock in the hope of a drier surface but unfortunately, drier meant a slow 7! Probably a bit unlucky as she was left out in front in the middle of the track half way down the running, where she just got a bit lost, additionally she still not enjoying the surface and got run down after not really stretching out, but finished 3rd in a solid display.

An interesting part of her campaign was her third start where she was 4th emergency and got a last minute call up into the field for Wyong and ran a very credible 3rd.

This time around, Midnight Reigns has grown and filled out significantly, benefiting from a good spell. After a couple of third placed trials, Midnight Reigns lined up at Hawkesbury where she was unceremoniously 'squeezed out' of the fray 200m into the 1200m effort, from there she rallied so well to gallop home and clinch third. From there, O'Shea earmarked the "BMW "M5" Magic Millions $100,000 Maiden, although we were unluckily balloted out, so we had a crack at a 1300m race for fillies and mare's at Newcastle where she made her run early and hung on for a win breaking the maiden, to the delight of he ownership group.

Third up, Midnight Reigns started at Canberra, having no options closer to home. The race was in shambles from the beginning when a horse got stuck in the barrier another horse broke down upon jumping from the barriers, and two horses collided. When the horse that got stuck free itself, it decided to run the race and gave Midnight Reigns a lot of grief in the running. She finished unplaced though trainer John O'Shea was adamant that this race was a to be "forgiven" because of the interference. Onwards and Upwards! We are now targeting a 1300m Benchmark 60 race at Newcastle on the 11th of February for her fourth up start.
Within minutes all our plans changed and we put her on a float up north and at a good price she ran a most positive race to once again finish 3rd in a good field on a Heavy 8 surface. The run was full of guts and determination and it also showed that she was starting to improve her racing knowledge which essentially was the aim of running her, given the fact we had all but conceeded that the surface was not to our liking.

She came back to Randwick refreshed in late September and will be ready to perform this coming preparation. A nice filly in the making.
