Two Starters in the Magic Millions Tomorrow!

Friday, January 13, 2012

Champion Thoroughbreds’ 'sweetheart', two year old filly, Hoss Amor, will headline for us in the feature 2yo race and strong, tough three year old gelding Number One Gun is to contest he $100,000 Maiden.

Hoss Amor has had much press ahead of her second ever start when she will line up in the $2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast.

Winning the Magic Millions Wyong 2yo race gave us direct entry into the feature race over 1200m solely for the cream of the crop purchased at the 2011 Magic Millions yearling sales. Entry into this race was dependent on prizemoney with which Hoss Amor is now well equipped with, following the first prize of $130,000 (not to mention the $20,000 BOBS bonus) we scored upon her debut.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla maintains the ride for Saturday’s race and has executed Hoss Amor’s fast work sessions ever since. “ Hoss Amor has gone from strength to strength since her win at Wyong. She’s been working terrifically at fast work and I have no doubt that she will be competitive with a decent barrier draw on Saturday,” commented Avdulla.

Trainer John O’Shea has commented, “She has done nothing to show that she shouldn’t be in the race on Saturday, she's jumping out of her skin and has not needed racing in the lead up to Saturday, The rest of them can beat themselves up. The thing about this filly is her attitude, that is imperative with two year olds. Although drawn awkwardly if we can run past both Driefontein & Sizzling then I think she would have done enough to get the desired result.”

Five percent is owned by Sky Racing's newshound, Andrew Bensley (pictured below with Hoss Amor), who O’Shea says has been “walking the box” in the lead up to the Gold Coast feature.

In addition to our classy 2yo filly, we have Number One Gun lining up in race 1. He is a horse that we gave time to mature and develop, and we're glad we did because we now have a very handy horse on our hands. Number One Gun is by Vinery Stud sire Mossman, famous for horses including Buffering, Segments and Love Conquers All and from what our jockey’s have told us, Number One Gun is on the same track.

Debuting in a No Metro Win Handicap over 1200m at Canterbury he was very promising, running a nail bitingly close second. Number One Gun’s second start revealed some slight inexperience in the early stages where he ‘ran away’ with jockey Hugh Bowman to knock up by the 700m mark to finish 6th beaten by just under three lengths, again over 1200m. “ Number One Gun did an incredible job to finish where he did after behaving that way at the start of the race. We’ll now work on his racing manners and play with a few different bit options to get him right for his next start, ” commented O’Shea. Upon dismounting Bowman declared him a Group quality horse, a statement that was first heard from Nash Rawiller’s mouth after riding Number One Gun’s first trial.

We nominated for this race, the BMW ‘M3’ Magic Millions Maiden over 1200m, in the hope of getting a run and happily, we did and have now accepted, drawing barrier 9 (though likely to come in to barrier 6 as 3 emergencies have drawn inside of us).

It looks as if we’ll have two competitive Champion Thoroughbreds representatives at the Gold Coast come Saturday, and what a big day it will be.
