First NZ Purchase “A Cracking High Chaparral Colt”
Wednesday, February 01, 2012
Early on in the first day of selling at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premier Sale, John O’Shea and Jason Abrahams, buying for Champion Thoroughbreds, secured exactly what they wanted - "a cracking colt by
High Chaparral".
Born and raised at renowned New Zealand thoroughbred nursery, Sedgemere Farm, this colt was the 22nd horse to set foot in the acclaimed ring of the Karaka sale on the day. Jason Abrahams described the purchase, as “a lovely, scopey, staying bred colt that is representative of the horses that have been successful by his sire, High Chaparral, and who is well balanced and a good walker.”
An obvious flag bearer for the High Chaparral (pictured below) stock, So You Think won the Cox Plate twice and ran 3rd in the Melbourne Cup before being sold for a high sum to the UK where he has won a further three Group 1 events in Europe. He has won from 1400m to 2300m and has been placed over 3400m. So You Think is an incredible athlete that has amassed a staggering amount of prizemoney, in excess of $6,900,000, with no vision to hang up the bridle just yet.
Being an athletic type by a world class stallion aren't all the assets this colt has got going for him. His New Zealand bred dam, Winsome, won three times from 1200m to 1400m and in addition to these wins, ran 4th in the 1400m Group 3 Egmont Stakes and Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, was placed second in the 1400m Listed Tauranga Classic, form which led her to contesting the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes. Winsome has had three foals to race, all winners, including Hard Stuff, which has had six starts in Singapore for three wins and three thirds!

Having the right parents may not mean anything if they’re not genetically suited to each other, however this colt is bred on a proven cross. Byron Rogers of TrueNicks described his pedigree as being “based on Sadler's Wells over Mt Livermore mares which rates well with 11% Stakes-winners to Runners. It is the same broad Sadler's Wells/Blushing Groom cross as Derby winner, Authorized and Group 1 winners Tavistock, Act One, Spanish Moon, etc.”
We will complete this colt's PDS (product disclosure statement) in a week at which time, he will be available for purchase.
