Exciting Two Year Olds on Show

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

The gates to the John O'Shea racing stable were swung open to welcome the owners of three of our very nice two year olds currently in work at the stable, and what a morning for it!

The sun was shining and we had a solid representation of owners for the 9am kick off, when we were met by John O'Shea to show off these athletes and discuss their progress.

First on parade was one of our two New Zealand bred, born, raised and sold two year old colts, Wahlberg (pictured below on Sunday morning). He had a preparation early on in his two year old career, having a couple of jump outs before requiring a little break, which he relished. After a short stint at the pre-trainer’s, Wahlberg arrived back into the Randwick stable to resume his work, which he goes about very professionally. Wahlberg will be having his first trial on the 31st of January. I have no doubt that we'll have a strong contingent of proud owners out to the Warwick Farm trials to see him!

Second to strut her stuff was Furiosa. She is an attractive filly by Champion 2yo Sire (in Australia and the USA) More Than Ready, out of Chilean Group 2 winning mare Wild Storm who is by Hussonet, a stallion that's beginning to stand up and be noticed as a broodmare sire in the USA and South America. His oldest Australian progeny are only six years old but in the coming years be sure to watch out for his grand-progeny on Australian soil!

Furiosa's (pictured below on Sunday morning) owners have been champing at the bit, eagerly awaiting her return into the stable. Her first preparation saw her trial for fourth in a quick time of 54.90 seconds, after which a holiday was in order. During her spell she really unwound and began to relax, as being quite a 'hot headed' filly we were more than happy to give her some time out. She put on a substantial amount of weight which has giving us a lot to work with upon her return to working life. Of late, she has been stepping up her work and John is looking to trial her in February.

Often referred to as 'The Next So You Think' because of his luxuriously long, thick mane and forelock, Target In Sight was the final horse to go on show in front of some adoring owners. This horse has plenty of admirers and his trainer is certainly one of them. Target In Sight had his first trial last Tuesday and you could tell it was his first! Completely relaxed in the tie up stall and when jockey Nash Rawiller jumped on board, Target In Sight calmly made his way out to the barriers for his debut. Jumping as fast as lightning, Target In Sight took the lead. When Nash went to steady him a few horses slotted in front of him which gave him the fright of his life, noticeably jamming on the brakes! Following a re-group, in the final stages of the race Target In Sight realised why he was there and extended his big stride very elegantly, enough to drop John's lower jaw and prompt Nash to ask to remain on the horse. Target In Sight will have his second trial on the 31st of January, along with Wahlberg.
