Grand Lodge Shines As A Broodmare Sire
Friday, February 05, 2010
A son of Chief’s Crown, Grand Lodge was well supported during his 8 seasons standing at Woodlands Stud. A champion juvenile in Europe and an English 2000 Guineas winner, his best European performer was the Aga Khan’s outstanding colt and now successful sire, Sinndar, winner of the English and Irish Derby’s as well as the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The David Hayes trained import, Our Aqaleem, a son of Sinndar, won on debut at Flemington last Saturday.
Grand Lodge’s top Australian bred performers were Gr 1 winners Shogun Lodge, Hotel Grand, Freemason, Grand Zulu and Lovelorn.
More recently, it has been his performance as a prominent broodmare sire which is impressing breeders. Australian bred daughters of Grand Lodge have produced SW’s Zipping, Marching, Queen of Queens and South African star Strategic News. Daughters of Grand Lodge also produced Geegees Blackflash, winner of the Tasmanian Derby, and Wall Street, winner of the Gr 1 Thorndon Mile.
Grand Lodge is the dam sire of Champion’s 2YO Galileo colt who is currently enjoying a well earned spell before returned to the John O’Shea stable.
