A Sad Goodbye

A Sad Goodbye

It was about four months ago that I walked into the office of Champion Throroughbreds, unaware of what was ahead of me. I arrived, sat at my desk, and looked at the huge array of clients I was to be involved with – how was I going to cope?

Four months on, I now know that there was nothing to worry about. Every single person I have had the opportunity to converse with have been nothing but exceptional, kind, understanding and entertaining. That is why it is with such sadness that I say goodbye to all of you involved in Champion. My studies of a Public Relations degree is coming to a close, and I have been offered a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the fashion, glitz and glamour of the PR world -  a dream job of mine since I was 15…no matter how much I love it here – I can’t say no.

Working for Champion has been so much more than I ever expected. You are all so lucky to be involved in a company that has such a deep appreciation for racing. With Jason Abrahams and John O’Shea leading the team, I can see nothing but a prosperous future for Champion and those involved. Jason is not only one of the most knowledgeable minds in the racing world, but he is genuinely passionate about making horse ownership enjoyable and achievable for everyone. I have had a wonderful experience working with Jason, he has been nothing but good to me and I have developed a strong friendship with him. A special thanks to you Jason.

I have had the enjoyment of developing a strong bond with most of you. We have seen wins and losses (but mostly wins), drunk bubbly together, lost our voices from cheering on the horses and had weekly gossip sessions – you have all made this experience fantastic for me. I have learned so much working here. Not only that a horse is ‘clipped’ not shaved, that a horses ears prick when it wins a race, that a colt has more teeth than a filly, that horses can produce over 9 gallons of saliva in one day (I learned the hard way), but also that it is possible to enjoy your job so immensely…that you don’t even feel like you’re working.

So, it is now time for me to wish you ALL the best, both personally and with the success of the horses in which you are involved with. Julia will be now be taking my position. I have no doubt she will be fantastic. She has horses of her own and a deep passion for horse racing, I wish her all the best when she starts in October.  The current stable has a lot of potential and I will be sure to be watching the development of the horses I have become so attached too, and the owners to which they belong.

Thank you all for making my experience at Champion so rewarding.

Warmest wishes always

Rebecca Baker
