Number One Gun Wins Australia's Richest Maiden!
Sunday, January 15, 2012
Three year old son of Mossman,
Number One Gun, displayed serious quality as he led all the way to win the $100,000 BMW 'M5' Magic Millions Maiden race and in doing so making a hat trick for Champion Thoroughbreds.
Debuting in a No Metro Win Handicap over 1200m at Canterbury Number One Gun was very promising, running a nail bitingly close second. His second start revealed some slight inexperience in the early stages where he ‘ran away’ with jockey Hugh Bowman to knock up by the 700m mark and finish 6th beaten by just under three lengths, again over 1200m. “Number One Gun did an incredible job to finish where he did after behaving that way at the start of the race, ” commented O’Shea.
Upon dismounting Bowman declared him a Group quality horse, a statement that was first heard from Nash Rawiller’s mouth after riding Number One Gun’s first trial to run second by a neck, and subsequently win by two lengths under Christian Reith at Randwick.
And the experts weren't wrong. Having nominated and accepted for Australia's richest Maiden Race - the BMW 'M3' Magic Millions Maiden over 1200m (three year olds and up) on the Gold Coast - we drew barrier 9 (coming into 6 following the non acceptance of the emergencies) and we were in the race from the get-go. Right on the bunny from the gates, Cassidy settled
Number One Gun (pictured below courtesy of
Martin King's Sportpix) in the lead. At the bend he was two lengths ahead of the competition, hitting the line strongly while staving off all competition.
The owners were understandably rapt with the performance, as was
John O'Shea who commented, "We didn't run as planned, hoping to sit with cover, but Jimmy is the best front running jockey around and the horse is strong and fit. He's a quality horse and I expect some serious results from him following a spell."
Amazingly, there is still a 5% share left in
Number One Gun for only $11,000 (which is comprised of share price as a yearling $7,495 and expenses until now!). Get in quick!
Congratulations to all connections!
