Stand and Salute returned to the stable this preparation looking very well.
It has been a long, steady process to gradually get the weight off him and he has been taken along slowly with plenty of conditioning work. He has shown John he has a good deal of ability and has made nice progress this time in.
He had an easy trial at Randwick on 13 November. After being slowly away, he was settled towards the rear of the field before balancing up in the straight and being held together up the running. It was a good effort for his first day out and he trialled up to expectation.
He was feeling his knees after the trial and, as a result, has been sent for a spell to give him time to improve his capacity to cope with the heavier work load, once his knees settle. After an 8 week spell he has been sent to an aquasizer, which will help condition him before returning to the stable.
Stand and Salute returned to the Stable on 4th March looking very well. John has been happy with the way he has progressed. He trialled at Warwick Farm on the 30th April where he was slowly away but worked to the line nicely. He debuted eventually at Kembla Grange in June where he ran a credible 8th with not much going his way. His next start had him back in the field on an unsuitable track and distance, before backing up a week later and stepping up to a mile where he ran a credible 5th. He then ran a great 2nd followed by a 4th over 2100m before heading for a break in late August.
John is being very patient with Stand and Salute, giving him every opportunity to mature.
