Carmine King

"A great walking, athletic gelding by the Mr Consistent sire in Commands"
This Magic Millions gelding was purchased from the good Hunter Valley farm, Murrulla Stud (bred and raised Sirmione, Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes winner of 2007). He is an attractive loose walking gelding and given the phenomenal results Commands is achieving, you want them on your side come raceday if you fancy being in the winners circle.

This gorgeous looking gelding is the first foal from three times winning Marauding mare, Montecatini, who won up to 1300m. Marauding mares have been going gangbusters with the likes of Dealer Principal, Grand Armee, Melito and Ambulance all coming out of Marauding mares. Combining these two stallions along with the second damsire Last Tycoon, who has managed to produce 7 Gr1 winners last season that have him in their damline, gives an amazing picture of what this geldings family can do. Carmine King's second dam is a half sister to French Group 1 winner Carmine Lake, this gelding's namesake.

His sire, Commands, has had 38 stakes-winners including six Group 1 winners. He boasts a 71% winners to runners percentage and was the Leading Sire of Winners in the 2010-11 season, which tells you just how good of a stallion he is.

Carmine King helped Commands out in his quest to be the Leading Sire of Winners in 2010-11 with a convincing win at Canberra on Black Opal day. An interesting fact is that Carmine King ran over the same distance (1100m) in that maiden plate, which was the same distance as the Black Opal race and shaved one second off of Karuta Queen's winning time! Whilst carrying 57.5 kg! No easy feat! He was only once unplaced in his first preparation with two 2nds, two 3rds, a win and a 7th placing.

Carmine King has a loyal group of faithful followers (owners) who have had a fantastic time with 'The King' in his latest preparation. He started very unluckily having been squeezed out and galloped on. Though this won't stop our gelding, he then fought back with a great win on at the Gosford Gold Cup Twilight meeting. Having gained plenty of confidence from his last win, 'The King' then scored impressively at a transferred Metropolitan Wednesday meeting at Kembla Grange! We were ecstatic at the result. We then lined up at Canterbury on a Friday night just over a fortnight later. He was exceedingly tough and ran a gallant second to a freakish performance by Nobby Snip.

After completing a well deserved spell, where the staff were fighting over who would be looking after him as he's such a charismatic individual, he returned into the stable looking excellent after some well managed pre-training. Unfortunately whilst going about his conditioning work he had some slight soreness in his off-fore fetlock joint so has gone back to Emeran Park for some more rest and relaxation.

We're not too concerned because this was the scenario before his last preparation where he notched up his first Metro win!

He returned for his second preparation and progressed extremely well. Last time in he showed great speed out of the gates in his jump outs and John was excited to be able to give him a let up over January and February, in readiness, for his next test, a full preparation as an autumn 2yo!
This horse was gelded in mid February. He began pre training on the 15th March and returned to the stable early April. He then worked along nicely prior to a bone chip in a fetlock which has since been removed and he returned to the stables at the end of August. He has been exceptional in training so far. He has completed two barrier trials, running 3rd at Randwick and then won at Rosehill Gardens.
After a good spell at Emeran Park, he recommenced his training in Mid November and trialled at Warwick Farm on the 24th January where we won the trial without being put under pressure. He then ran 2nd at a barrier trial on 15th February, which gave us the green light to take him to the races. To the delight of his owners, Carmine King ran 2nd in his first race start at Kembla Grange on Saturday 26th February over 1300m and then won his second start at Canberra on Black Opal Day by 3L. He has continued to impress the stable with his ability and consistent performance, however has been a little unlucky with his barrier draws and been forced to do a lot of work early in his races. He was 2nd (in a photo finish) at Newcastle on 26th March and ran a gallant 3rd at Canterbury Park from yet another wide barrier. To add to the bad luck, he then went to Hawkesbury on Sat 30th April and drew barrier 14 and unfortunately, he ended up sitting four deep without cover for the entire race on a slow 7. The horse's effort was still there, although not reflective in his finishing position, running 7th.
Carmine King is coming back into work late September, so we are looking forward to seeing him back at Randwick and running over the Christmas period.
