Military Gal has always shown plenty of ability, but John is confident the best of her is yet to come.
The current season has seen her step up to her first test at Group level when she contested the Gr 1 Golden Rose (1400m). Although finishing well back, she didn't disgrace herself in what was one of the best 3YO fields of the year. he was to be set for the Magic Millions 3yo race however lightened off in condition markedly and the decision was made to spell her after just one run back in December when she ran a credible 4th to Graceful Anna in the 3yo Magic Millions race at Wyong. This has once again turned out to be a great form race with Graceful Anna winning on the Gold Coast in January.
Military Gal's 2YO form was solid, with 2 wins over 1100, 1200m. She had from around impressive 2YO's Manhatttan Rain and Marquardt which should hold her in good stead as she pushes on in her 3YO career.
Military Gal returned to the stable in late January after having put a good bit of condition on during her spell. Millie has had an interrupted preparation and then found some form when winning comprehensively at Randwick during the first week of August, much to the relief of her trainer who felt she had recaptured some 2yo form that had been missing from her races this season up till her latest win. Programming makes it hard to find suitable races for a mare like Military Gal but with some spacing between runs, there is hopefully plenty more wins to come.
