The Breeders Owners Bonus Scheme (BOBS) and BOBS EXTRA are part of an incentive program that is designed to encourage owners to race horses that have been bred in NSW.
BOBS is heading into its eighth season and has handed out more than $40 million in bonuses to racehorse owners. Last season a record $7.35 million was handed to owners from across the state.
These bonuses come on top of the $120 million in prize money that was handed to owners in season 2008/09. Racehorses are eligible for BOBS if their NSW based sire has been nominated for the program.
A fee of $660 (inc. GST) will secure a racehorse’s entry into BOBS. BOBS Extra is an additional $840 (inc. GST) for eligible hroses. There are 156 eligible stallions for the 2009/10 season. BOBS provides bonuses to winners of two and three-year-old races across NSW excluding group and listed races. Bonuses ranging from $1,250 to $20,000 for Saturday metropolitan wins. See below:

As of season 2009/10 racehorse owners will also be able to nominate for a new bonus scheme called BOBS Extra that provides the same bonuses for horses aged four and above that win events at 1600m and beyond.
All owners that earn BOBS Bonuses are also able to ‘Double Up’ their bonus. That means that instead of taking an upfront cash payment, they can choose to take a voucher at double their bonus to reinvest in a BOBS eligible racehorse at any yearling sale.
For example a $32,000 ‘Double Up’ voucher in place of a $16,000 BOBS payment to owners who win a Saturday metropolitan class race.
Owners can also use their ‘Double Up’ to reinvest in unraced horses that are being syndicated.
As in all cases the decision to ‘Double Up’ must be used within 20 working days of the credits being won by a racehorse.
‘Double Up’ credits are eligible for two years so once an owner has informed Racing NSW that they would like to ‘Double Up’ their BOBS credit they then have two years to use reinvest in a new racehorse.
If you would like to know more about how ‘Double Up’s’ can be used to reinvest in Champion Thoroughbreds please call (02) 9436 0795.
