Regine Puts On Dominant Display At Sunshine Coast

Well bred three year old filly Regine (Mastercraftsman) blitzed her rivals in the Workplace Central Maiden Plate over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. She followed up her promising debut run at Nowra on April 30th where she finished 3rd to come out and win by 4.5 lengths. Guided by top hoop Jim Byrne, Regine jumped from barrier 6 in the field of 10 runners and utilized her good gate speed to take up the lead. She settled beautifully for Byrne and skipped away at the home turn to be eased down on the line in impressive fashion. The Irish import looks set for a promising race career and with a European staying pedigree to back her up, she's sure to improve as she gets over further.

It's been well documented that Regine is a half sister to Group 1 winner Trip To Paris (Champs Elysees). She was purchased in 2015 just prior to Trip To Paris' gallant 2nd in the Caulfield Cup and 4th in the Melbourne Cup. She laid a good foundation of education in Ireland at The Curragh last year before arriving in Australia in late November. She's been in work since December and has impressed trainer John Sargent with her continuous improvement and tenacity.

Following Sunday's win John will assess how she's pulled up before deciding where she heads next. She has been nominated for the QLD Oaks in 3 weeks but she may be a run short for the assignment. Regardless of what she does this for the remainder of this preparation, she'll have a well deserved spell up north where she should relish the warmer winter.
