Regine Gives Champion & O'Shea Perfect Start To 2018

Four year old imported mare Regine kicked off 2018 in winning style after saluting at Royal Randwick on New Year's day. The daughter of Mastercraftsman was having just her seventh career start, notching up her third win and adding an all important metropolitan victory to her pedigree. With Blake Shinn aboard, she jumped cleanly from barrier 1 and got the perfect run behind the leader, Madison Avenue. She travelled well around the home-turn to give a good kick and prove too strong for the fast finishing Chris Waller trained Jaunty.

Trainer John O'Shea commented post-race "The blinkers gave us that extra couple of lengths that she needed. She's a nice mare that we will continue to work through her grades and hopefully she'll get a little more distance too".

Regine is certainly bred to get over further, she is a half-sister to Trip To Paris- A Group 1 winner of the Royal Ascot Gold Cup, runner up in the 2016 Caulfield Cup and 4th placegetter in the Melbourne Cup. Well done to her ownership group who are all long term Champion owners including the Baker Family, the Willis Family, TAB Rewards, John Allen, Jane Petrie, Chris Hodgkinson, David Steffel, Kim McDougall and Claire Rowe

It was a good day for the John O'Shea racing team at Randwick with 9 year old entire Prince Cheri returning to the winners circle for the first time since 2013 when taking out the Tattersalls Club Cup over 2400m.
