KONITOS - b.c. by CONGRATS – KALAMATA by DESERT PRINCE

By a leading young son of a champion racehorse and sire, this magnificent colt comes from a live family, full of grade one performers.

He is by Champion U.S. Freshman Sire, Congrats, a son of Horse of the Year and multiple Champion Sire, A.P. Indy. With his best bred crops still to run, Congrats is already sire of 17 stakes winners. They include the four-time grade one winning juvenile and sprinter Turbulent Descent; two-year-old grade one scorer Wickedly Perfect; and grade one winning sprinter Emma’s Encore.
This son of Congrats is half-brother to the highly accomplished Stirling Grove. A seven time winner, with earnings of almost A$550,000, Stirling Grove captured the SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (gr. III) at two, and earned places in eight other black-type events, including an excellent third to Black Caviar in the SAJC Goodwood Handicap (gr. I).

This colt’s dam, Kalamata, is also a grade one performing speedster. A six-time winner, Kalamata captured the Waikato Stud Stakes on only her second start, and earned a grade one placing with a third to Champion Starcraft in the Mudgway Partsworld Stakes (gr. I). Kalamata is half-sister to stakes winning and graded stakes placed Kirvinsky, and is also a sister to Kondari, dam of current star, Hucklebuck. An earner of over A$1,000,000 to date, Hucklebuck completed a hat-trick of victories with a triumph in the VRC Emirates Stakes (gr. I).

The second dam, Kirtlington, is half-sister to Irish Opera, a ten-time winner who took second in the ARC Easter Handicap (gr. I). A daughter of Scenic, Kirtlington is out of another outstanding runner in the shape of Acushla Marie, who in the space of three weeks captured the VRC Fraces Tressady Stakes (gr. III), MRVC Diamond Jubilee Stakes (gr. III) and STC Winfield Classic (gr. I). Acushla Marie is also a three-quarters sister to graded stakes winner Yanna Marie, and half-sister to classic placed stakes winner Clovelly Bay.

This colt is a product of the A.P. Indy/Danzig cross which has already produced 40 stakes winners, including in Australia and New Zealand, grade one winning two-year-old Ruud Awakening, and four-time graded scorer Toydini.
