This Magic Millions gelding came to us from the weanling sale and has developed as well as you could possibly hope! The Galileo's averaged $281,471 at the Easter Sale 2009 for the seventeen that sold, so securing this gelding early has locked in a bargain for our stable clients.
By the leading European stallion Galileo, who has given us Gallant Tess, Sousa, and Lycean Academy this gelding has great muscle and attitude, which you want in a gelding of this pedigree, but rarely see. His well performed dam is from the family of Major, Happen and a horse John O'Shea had a very high opinion of, One in a Million. His two dam-sires are the highly successful sires Grand Lodge and Marauding. He hails from the famed Newhaven Park Stud, who recently bought back the mare from auction, such was their excitement with her efforts in producing her first foal, this handsome chestnut gelding.
Lightinthenite kicked off his career in fine fashion, in fact you couldn't ask for better! He won his first three starts by a combined margin of 5.3 lengths, twice in metropolitan company. We then made the move to Saturday metropolitan company at Rosehill with success. Unfortunately a very unlucky run had him in sixth position in his first Saturday start, but in the scheme of things it was a great run! He chased the leader on a Heavy 9, a big ask! The leader ended up 15 lengths last while we managed to finish a mere 4 lengths off of the winner!
Since then it has only gotten better! Maintaining Saturday metropolitan company, Lightinthenite has managed a 3rd, 2nd and another victory. His last start back was his fort foray into a stakes racing in the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill. Josh Adam's rode him extremely well only to be stuck behind the leaders when the time came to sprint, breaking through late, Lightinthenite powered to the line to clinch second, half a length to the victrious seasoned campaigner, Monton. Lightinthenite pulled up well and is on track for the Group 2 Villiers Stakes on the 17th of December!
Lightinthenite was gelded on 18/6 and after a spell and a course of pretraining he progressed very well in the stable environment. He ran 3rd in a field of nine runners in his first barrier trial at Warwick Farm, displaying lots of ability. After showing signs of shin soreness he was given a nice break in the paddock to allow him to mature further and he returned back to Randwick Stables late December to commence training.
He has been exceptional in training this preparation and is holding his condition beautifully. He ran 2nd in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on 15th February and 3rd on 1st March at Rosehill.
He has impressed his owners by winning both of his first two races in great style. He had a dominant win by 2.8 lengths in a 1200m Maiden at Newcastle on Thursday 17th March with Nash Rawiller onboard, and stepped up in class to run at Royal Randwick on Wednesday 30th March to win in a very strong field over 1300m with Jockey, Christian Reith over 1300m.
With the incredible ability that Lightinthenite had shown, John O'Shea nominated him for a 1400m Stakes race on Doncaster Day. Sadly, the stable had to scratch him at the last minute, as he showed signs of lameness and was not fit to compete, which was extremely disappointing.
Lightinthenite has returned to the Randwick stable after a good 8 week spell at Emeran Park. In his first start back he displayed a dominant win by 2.3 lengths under the night sky at Canterbury on the 23/9 and have given his owners a lot to look forward to.
