This Easter sale purchase selected by John O'Shea, is from the renown
Hunter Valley farm in Yarraman Park Stud (think Rewaaya, Snitzel,
Amelia's Dream)! He is big, loose walking Commands colt and is a
stunning individual to look at with a deep girth and fantastic
hindquarter.
Commands needs no introduction, just consider Court Command, Posadas,
Undue, Paratroopers, Marching and Purple to name a few, he has proven
himself as a top sire being the stallion with the most individual winners in Australia
(10-11 season).
Being the third foal out of a stakes placed Carnegie mare there is
plenty to be admired about him. Carnegie is the sire of Vision and Power, the
dual Gr1 winner this season, and he is also the dam-sire of Whobegotyou,
the Champion 3yo colt of Melbourne in the 2008-09 season.
A classic, later maturing son of Commands, Rule Number One has had his best success as a 4yo, though he wasn't a failure as a 3yo! He had a narrow defeat for 2nd at Newcastle. His first success was at Kembla Grange as a 4yo, he defeated two heavily favoured runners including stable mate Raging To Win, and payed over $14! His next start back was at Newcastle, a track we know he thrives at. It was one hell of a close finish, finishing 4th by 1.3 lengths! His next start back Rule Number One was ridden to perfection by Andrew Gibbons and displayed a gallant dash home to clinch victory by close to a length. Since then he has been a nose 2nd at Goulburn carrying 58kg. He will line up at Canterbury night races on Friday the 16th of December. Here he will be running over his longest trip ever, 1900m, and we're positive he will relish the jump in distance.
With 4 Gr1 winners on the page and wins from 1100m to 3200m, there is scope for this colt to reach great heights on the track.
Rule Number One has grown and filled out during his last break and looks to still be maturing. He is an awesome animal to look at so we have high hopes for him as a 3yo. We trialled him in August and he did extremely well, coming a close third. Unfortunately, he started to feel his shins which is not unusual for a gelding of his size, and a little bit of patience will reap rewards as he showed good progress in his work before going shin sore.
After an enjoyable break in the paddock, he resumed training back at Randwick and progressed extremely well, running a relaxed 3rd in a Randwick Barrier trial in November. Unfortunately, an untimely injury several days before his first start in December had him under a cloud for several weeks before a scan revealed nothing sinister, and John immediately put him back into work. He ad a solid preparation, running some nice races including a 2nd and was spelled again.
He is currently back in work and had his first start back in September which provided a victory at Kembla over 1200m. He will be restricted to the middle distances this preparation, which will hopefully ensure some more success for his owners.
