Acceptance and Non Acceptance Fees - fees applied to trainers when applying for a race
Acceptances - final field allocated to a particular race
Agistment - when a horse is out of the stable and resting in a paddock
Ballot - where too many horses apply for a race, a system of deciding who is running is applied
Barrier Trial - a simulated race for horses to be educated in and assist with fitness
Barrier - starting gates that the horses jump from to commence a race
BOBS - Breeders Owners Bonus Scheme - has additional bonus prizemoney for NSW bred horses
Breaking In - when a horse is being taught to be ridden and have a saddle on its back
Correct Weight - once jockeys have weighed in the same as they went out, TAB dividends are paid
Drench - worming paste
Emeran Park - spelling farm
Farrier - looks after the feet and shoeing needs of the horse
Float - truck used to transport the horse
GT Park - Agistment farm often used for horses
Handicap - race where each horse is allotted a particular weight to even the field
Handicap Rating - ratings applied to each horse assist with the application of a weight allocated
Laser/ Bubble Boots - treatment used on horses to assist with soreness in legs
Limitless Lodge - Pre training and spelling farm
Maiden - horse who has not yet won a race
No Metropolitan Win Race - a race eligible for horses who have only won at provincial or country tracks
Nominations - Initial roll of horses applying to run in a race
Physio Treatment - often used to treat back or muscle injuries or concerns of the horse
Protest - where one horse’s connections object to the result of a race due to circumstances
Shin Sore - legs become sensitive due to stress, mainly in immature or young horses
Spelling - see agistment
Stakes Race - high quality race that usually carries higher prizemoney and distinction for breeding
Strapper - person who looks after the horse
Track Fees & Pool - cost to trainers for use of the training tracks and pool facilities
Weights - weight allotted to each horse nominated for a race
