One of the sensations of the current round of yearling sales has been the first crop of All Too Hard. A half-brother to the magnificent Black Caviar, All Too Hard was a stellar performer in his own right. The leader of an Australian three-year-old crop that also included Pierro, All Too Hard earned official recognition as the co-highweighted three-year-old in the world. His victories included the Caulfield Guineas (gr. I), C. F. Orr Stakes (gr. I), Futurity Stakes (gr. I) and All Aged Stakes (gr. I), a quartet of races never previously captured by a three-year-old in the same season.

Champion Thoroughbreds Victoria’s All Too Hard boast an exceptional distaff pedigree, as he is out of a graded stakes producing Royal Academy mare who comes from a classic producing family. The dam, Royal Season, has already produced at top-class performer in the shape of this colt’s half-sister Twilight Royale. The precocious and speedy Twilight Royale produce an exceptional performance to deny subsequent multiple grade one winner Shamus Award in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (gr. II). To underline her talent, Twilight Royale, a near A$500,000 earner also captured the ATC Inglis Nursery Stakes and MRC Inglis 2YO Premier. Royal Season is also dam of four other winners, headed by Mio Roiale, a five-time scorer who earned black-type with a second in the VRC Gibson Carmichael Stakes.

Royal Season is out of the classically-bred Quickshine, a daughter of The Minstrel and the two-year-old group winner Bubinka. Quickshine’s sister, Seasonal Pickup – herself a sprint stakes winner – is granddam of Hong Kong superstar Designs On Rome, a four-time grade one winner; American Derby (gr. II) captor Simple Exchange; Rekindled Interest, a multiple graded stakes winner and grade placed performer in Australia; and group and graded winners Where We Left Off and Sights of Gold; and third dam of group winner Rock of Romance. Note, that like this colt, Designs On Rome, Simple Exchange, Rekindled Interest and Rock of Romance, are all by Danehill line stallions.

Quickshine is also a sister to Style of Life, she the granddam of Grey Swallow, a Champion at two, three and four, and hero of the Irish Derby (gr. I); of group one winning two-year-old Night Style; and of group winner Moonlit Lake. Another classic winner from the extra-ordinary family is the Irish Oaks (gr. I) victress Covert Love, who is out of a half-sister to Quickshine.

The third dam of Quick Shine is the great foundation mare, Stolen Date, ancestress of such as Australian stars Redoute’s Choice, Platinum Scissors, Manhattan Rain, Umatilla, Hurricane Sky, Al Maher and He’s No Pie Eater, as well Champion and major sire, El Gran Senor, Champions Rags to Riches, Peeping Fawn, Xaar, Aviance, Aldebaran, Spinning World, Chimes of Freedom, Domedrive and Pathfork.
