Bred by Edinglassie Stud in the Hunter Valley this colt appealed greatly to us, particularly given his superior cardio rating result as a sprinter/miler. Physically he is an impressive colt with a wonderful demeanour to him. He walks straight through which we like to see and he has an efficient action which is essential for a good horse. He is well muscled and has a good brain on him. Being by a Danehill line stallion in Foxwedge and out of a Rahy line mare, we feel his pedigree cross, which has consistently produced good racehorses, will work again with this colt. He was passed in at auction but secured by Champion post sale. We don't mind passed in horses at Champion, in fact, much of our success has been sourced from passed in yearlings. A few that spring to mind include Zabrasive, Hoss Amor, Diamond Oasis, and our talented 3yo Kandinsky!

Edinglassie Stud needs no introduction to racing enthusiasts. It has been the nursery of recent stallions Deep Field and Shooting to Win, along with other Gr1 winners Nechita, Wonderful World, God's Own, Nadeem, Bentley Biscuit, Tell A Tale, Laisserfaire, Sharscay, Miss Margaret, and Suntain. It is truly an amazing list given the relatively small size of the horse population that resides on their Hunter Valley pastures. Champion also has the undefeated 3yo Kandinsky, who was also bred at Edinglassie Stud. The Stud's owner and manager, Mick Talty, mentioned that this colt has been a star amongst his crop from the day he was born and has been physically superior the whole time he has been growing up on the farm.

This colt is out of the stakes placed mare Permission To Land, which Champion is well aware of having Falco (High Chaparral) a half brother within our racing ranks. We have a good opinion of him, yet this colt would be bigger, stronger, and more impressive as an individual physically - and with that in mind, and knowing of Falco's racing potential and the speed he possesses, we feel this colt is likely to be a gifted galloper. After all, if the mare can produce a 1200m winner by a staying stallion, what will she be able to do with a sprinting stallion!

Foxwedge himself was the highest rated son of Fastnet Rock which was some achievement. A Gr1 sprint winner at 3, Foxwedge has 2yo's on the ground and has already produced a metropolitan winner with plenty of other talented progeny to come out in the coming months. He is a stallion with a big watch on him, and we are more than happy to be investing in him second season. We couldn't secure one from his first crop, but this colt looks to be comparable to anything we have seen in his 2 crops thus far.
