Three year old gelding Dunedin relished the wet track at Kembla Grange on Saturday when breaking his maiden over 1400m. A change of tactics and removal of the blinkers by trainer John O'Shea proved the winning move for the son of Dundeel who was able to pull away for a half a length victory, defeating the Jarrod Austin trained Summons who loomed as a threat at the 200m mark. Dunedin was having his third career start and was coming off a below par performance at Newcastle when ridden on speed. Ridden behind the leaders on Saturday, Dunedin attacked the line- a performance that his trainer John O'Shea was confident he could achieve. "It was easy in the end, he began cleanly and he put himself into a nice spot and travelled well" commented jockey Andrew Adkins after the win. "The other horse was there to beat us up the straight so it was good to see him show that fight and win."Dunedin was purchased for $60,000 from the 2022 Magic Millions yearling sale from the Kitchwin Hills Draft. Congratulations to his team of owners Mr D J Hines, 2022 1in4 Club syndicate, Mr G R Williams, Mrs V C Williams, Mr S Nagaratnam, Mr G Seto, Mr W W Doughty, Mr J C Withers, Mr J A Norden, Ms V L Sheils, Mr B Strachan, Mr S G Doughty, TJCMM Coles Racing, Mrs J S Willis, Mr D Abram, Hardroad Onlyroad and Mr H M Shipard.
In 2019, we purchased subsequent Group 1 winner Lion's Roar from the NZ Karaka yearling sale. 5 years later, we've been able to secure another quality yearling by Contributer, out of a mare we know very well, from the Magic Millions Adelaide sale. LOT 167 CONTRIBUTER X REGINE FILLY purchased for $80,000 + GST We're thrilled to be bringing home this beauty from today's Magic Millions Adelaide sale. This filly is the second foal out of our former race mare Regine (Mastercraftsman)- who was a 4 time winner including over a mile at Randwick. Regine is a half-sister to Group 1 Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris, a brilliant European stayer who made his way to Australia in 2015, where he was runner-up in the Caulfield Cup and 4th in the Melbourne Cup. This filly is very much in the mould of her dam Regine, and is one of the best Contributor's we have seen at the sales in recent years. Contributer, sire of our very own Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Lion's Roar, has done an excellent job at stud with limited numbers. Currently, his fillies are striking 9.5% stakes winner to runners! This filly is a lovely middle-distance addition to this year's exciting crop of yearlings and she will be trained at Randwick by the master of staying fillies- John Sargent. Lot 543 Bivouac x Star Creation Colt Written by Jason Abrahams After consultation with Tony McEvoy and his renowned bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy, we have secured a share in a Chestnut Bivouac colt out of a Reset mare named Star Creation, from the famous Victorian stud, Blue Gum Farm. The colt was purchased for $50,000 plus GST. Following on from having successfully syndicated out Bivouac colt with Danielle Seib, we thought this Bivouac colt represented a great opportunity for Champion and our clients to invest into a similarly profiled colt, this one however is eligible for both VOBIS and BOBS. Given Tony’s stables allow him to travel between the states efficiently, it provides a convenient option for the stable to pick and choose the best racing options for owners to earn prizemoney. I liked the way this colt has been mated, being bred on the same cross as SW juvenile Madeenaty. His second dam is by Galileo and the first 3 dame have been able to win at distances from 1400m to 1700m, giving this colt some scope to potentially stretch out to Guineas trip. The dam is a half sister the Gr3 winning colt over 1200m in Galaxy Pegasus. He is a late October foal so I feel the bang for your buck aspect will become evident over the next 6 months as he further matures. Physically I really like the way he uses his hocks and pushes off his hind legs. He has strength, efficiency, and control there, which is unusual for a late October foal. His stride is long, with a fluent action and overstep. He has a good amount of size and scope, with a beautiful head and markings. He has noticeably big ears and nostrils, with a masculine jowl. Basically he has all the makings of a fine galloper at a fraction of the cost. You have to remember that Bivouac wasn’t just a good racehorse, he was a World Champion Sprinter who could hold it up to 1400m. He is a son of Exceed and Excel out of a More Than Ready mare from the old Woodlands family of Camarilla – the female family that has produced Encryption, Guelph, Emanate, Ghibbellines and Camarena.
